Colorado to New Mexico

Day 5

Taos to Sante Fe
22/04/2024
Woke to a cloudless sky. We stayed in Taos for a while to visit Taos Pueblo which is an indian native adobe village. Really interesting to find out how they lived. We were not sure whether some of them were still lived in now. Then drove to pay a revisit to the Rio Grande Gorge bridge. An amazing feat of engineering, it is the highest bridge in the south west US. Still impressive even though we have seen it before.

We found a photography trip before we came but it was $425 dollars for 4 hours, which seemed a little OTT to me. One of the places they took you to see where the Hoodoos in Chimayo. We thought we would have a go at finding them ourselves, We eventually found some but we did find a scenic byway which was amazing. It was similar to the Grand Canyon and well worth the effort.

Eventually we moved on to Santa Fe to find our hotel, La Fonda, which is a very old hotel right in the centre. It is now very warm and we have had a lovely evening - a tapas meal and a wander around the town. The sun is just going down and the tourists are going home. All in all a lovely day. Off to Georgia O’Keefe’s Museum first thing tomorrow.
