Colorado to New Mexico

Day 21

The ghost town of Chloride
Ghost Town & Spa Days
08/05/2024
We left the Rocket Inn this morning to move to the other side of town. We had 4 hours before we could check in. So off we went to a ghost town called Chloride. As there are so many spa places in the town and they boast that they do not smell because of the chloride, I presume this is where it comes from. We have visited a couple of ghost towns previously but unfortunately they did not live up to the name. However, although we saw no-one there and obviously quite a few people do live there, there were lots of old buildings from way back. Also it has one of the biggest mines in New Mexico close by. Why anyone would want to live out there we did not know. It is just miles and miles of scrub and mountains.

We realised today that as long as we have been in the US we have had mountains in view, sometimes The Rockies and sometimes the Sierra Madre. There is also a lot to do with rockets all around here.

We have now checked into our new home for a couple of days in a spa resort. I am not that keen in spas but Geoff is. It is a nice place though. We have a huge permanent RV with lounge, kitchen, bathroom and bedroom. It is nice to be able to sit in comfy chairs rathe.r than on the bed.

Geoff has already had a spa and will probably have another one tomorrow. I will probably just relax and sit in the sunshine. Once we start travelling further north it will get colder so we have to make the best of it.

The image is of one of the buildings in Chloride.
